Taiwan president telephone, Trump deviate Policy US Politics



INTERNATIONAL - President-elect United States (US), Donald Trump, already speak directly with the President of Taiwan Tsai Ing-wen.

Step Trump was clearly distorts US foreign policy since 1979 when formal relations between the two countries severed.

Trump said the transition team, Trump and Tsai noted "the economic ties, political, and security that close" between the US and Taiwan via telephone conversations.

This step-risk angering China, which sees Taiwan as a province or provinces dissidents escape.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, reportedly responding to this incident as a "small step" by Taiwan.

Trump mencuit on Twitter that Tsai had contacted him to congratulate him because it won the US election.

His team said that Trump has also been congratulated Tsai after winning the US presidential election.

It is highly unusual for the president or elected US president to speak directly to the leaders of Taiwan.

Following media reports suggesting that the move risked angering China, Trump mencuit, "Interesting, when the US sells military equipment worth billions of dollars but I am not allowed to receive congratulations over the phone."

The White House said that the conversation Trump is not signaling a change in US policy.

Trump spokesman said that Trump was "very conscious" about US policy on Taiwan.

Washington cut off formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan in 1979 and expressed support for the concept of "One China" from Beijing stating that Taiwan is part of China.

There are hundreds of Chinese missiles pointed at Taiwan, and China has threatened to use force if Taiwan liberate themselves.

Responding to the news about the phone call, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said they rejected any official or military contracts interaction between the US and Taiwan, according to the People's Daily is the mouthpiece of the Communist Party.


Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the conversation between Trump and Tsai is a "small step by Taiwan".

Wang believes the move will not change the official US policy on China, according to Phoenix TV in Hong Kong.

"One China Policy is a buffer of healthy development in China-US relations and we hope that this political foundations are not interfered with or damaged," he said.

President Tsai led the Democratic Progressive Party won a big victory in the vote, in May 2016.

The party has traditionally want independence from China and the administration of President Tsai did not accept the One China policy.

Although formal relations were severed nearly four decades ago, but the US still maintains a close relationship with Taiwan's unofficial.

Following a telephone conversation Trump, the White House said the US remains committed to supporting the policy of One China.
